Young Champion Ambassadors

Colorado Springs, CO – August 21, 2019

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM) announced a formal arrangement today with the Young Champion Ambassador (YCA) program.  The new relationship aims to capitalize on the programmatic momentum and community engagement of YCA over the past four years throughout the Pikes Peak region. This cooperation will enhance the USOPM’s educational and community outreach initiatives as it prepares for public opening in the Spring of 2020.

Together, the USOPM and YCA will work to broaden the program to more high school students in the Pikes Peak region, enhance the leadership curriculum, engage YCA participants in USOPM activities, and expand YCA outreach to a statewide audience after 2020, as well as open opportunities nationally.

“We are delighted to join with the YCA team as we seek to engage young people throughout the Pikes Peak region in the education and demonstration of leadership ethics, along with the values of the Olympic and Paralympic movements.  Olympic City USA has many inspiring partners and we are excited for the future cooperation between the USOPM and YCA as we seek to enhance community participation and connectivity to the incredible stories of Team USA athletes and partners” said USOPM CEO Chris Liedel.

“We are very excited to join forces with the USOPM and realize the next steps in YCA’s potential.  From the inception of this effort, YCA has been committed to the promotion of Olympic City USA and the connection of local students to the Olympic movement. We have always believed the USOPM would be a catalyst of growth in our community as well as a great partner with YCA as we both embody and seek to expand the values of the Olympic spirit among high school students,” said YCA Founder Harris Kalofonos.

About: Young Champions Ambassador Program (YCA)

Young Champions Ambassadors (YCA) is a youth leadership program with an Olympic education focus, sanctioned by Colorado Springs Sister Cities International ( YCA began in 2015 as a result of a sister city relationship between Colorado Springs and the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Ancient Olympia, Greece. The YCA mission is to promote the legacy and origin of the Olympic movement to high school students and serve as a first engagement platform for students with the USOPM and Olympic City USA. YCA comes to life through an online essay competition and the selection of two student representatives per high school each year to participate in a one of a kind youth leadership curriculum that concludes with a trip to Ancient Olympia.  YCA participants engage in a journey of personal growth focused on design thinking, public speaking, networking, branding, and more.
